Abandoned Carts
What is sitting in unfinished checkouts, how much of it you can realistically recover, and what to do about it.
Abandoned Carts shows the checkouts shoppers started and never finished, what they were worth, and which ones you can still do something about.
Total value versus recoverable value
You will see two figures, and the difference between them matters.
Total value is everything sitting in unfinished checkouts.
Recoverable value is the part where the shopper got far enough to give you an email address. Those are the only ones you can send a recovery email to. The rest left before you had any way to reach them.
Judge yourself on the recoverable number. The total includes people you were never going to get back.
What to do with it
Sort by value and start at the top. A handful of large carts is usually worth more of your attention than a long tail of small ones.
Look at how recent they are, too. A cart abandoned an hour ago is a much better prospect than one from three weeks ago.
"Checkout permission needed"
Abandoned checkouts are a separate permission in Shopify from your orders. If you see this message, reconnect your store from Settings and approve the permission when Shopify asks.
If your store is connected and working elsewhere, and you still see a problem here, it is more likely that Shopify simply did not answer this request. Try again shortly before reconnecting anything.
Why the number can differ from Shopify's
Shopify creates an abandoned checkout record at a slightly different moment than you might expect, and it clears them on its own schedule. We show you what Shopify gives us for the period you have selected. Small differences against Shopify's own screen are normal; large ones are worth reporting.
